Summer is a very colourful time in the Mackenzie, we have many wild flowers that grow along the road sides and down river beds and in place that make you wonder (how can that grow there), next to Lake Tekapo you can find lupins and californian poppy and many other colourful flowers. The Mt Cook lily are very beautiful and are worthing taking a day to go and see them, they are useally out in November and are most easily found mid way and nearer the end of the Hooker Valley Track, Mt Cook Nation Park. If you like climbing there are also some alpine gardens in the same area but I would check with the DOC office on the ones that are flowering now and would be suitable for you to go to.
